Gareth Barry: Ross Barkley Should Show Steven Gerrard-like Consistency

Everton midfielder Gareth Barry is of the opinion that Ross Barkley can one day become like the Steven Gerrard of Everton but he needs to come up with performances on a more consistent basis.

Barkley is seen as one of the latest highly talented youngster from the famed Everton youth academy. Over the years, several top stars like Wayne Rooney have emerged from these stables. After having been linked with Chelsea and Manchester City in the last few years, Everton have been able to keepBarkley even without the European football.

After recently undergoing a managerial change to bring Ronald Koeman to Goodison Park, the club has spent substantial amount of money in order to aim for European qualification on a regular basis. As a youngster,Barkley will know that he will have to face a lot of disappointments as he gains experience. One of the latest has come in the form of being left out of the England squad by manager Sam Allardyce. Even thoughBarkley has started the season in sparkling form, he has missed out on the squad announced by the new manager. Forcing his way into the new manager’s thoughts will be extremely difficult, but Barry reckons that it is possible with consistent performances.

Steven Gerrard feels for the young English players

Steven Gerrard feels for the young English players, who, he says, are almost afraid right now because of heavy media scrutiny after a shameful show in France, but, he reckons it’s for the good of them as they would now be tougher personalities .

The legend, who has only had about two years out of international Football, reckons having been through a bad experience once, a player would never desire to be through it again and thus he would labour as hard as possible so that it doesn’t get wrong next time for him.

According to the Galaxy playmaker, like all the other people who live and breathe soccer in England, he was also optimistic and had not anticipated a knock-out at the hands of a team which had barely had any top drawer Footballer and that too before the quarter final.

The quarter final was the lowest stage the previous skipper had foreseen the Three Lions making it to, but, not to be, causing much frustration to him as to the entire nation.

Jamie Carragher has branded the Europa League comeback against Borussia Dortmund

Jamie Carragher has branded the Europa League comeback against Borussia Dortmund as one of the best nights at Anfield in the club’s history.

Liverpool secured a 4-3 win over the German outfit in order to progress to the Europa league semifinals 5-4 on aggregate. The two teams had managed a 0-0 draw in the first leg. Dortmund were one of the favourites to win the tournament and looked in an extremely strong position after taking a 2-0 lead in their away game at Anfield. However, Liverpool responded in brilliant fashion.

Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang have been regarded as a lethal partnership in European football. Liverpool were stunned after conceding two goals inside the opening 10 minutes. Yet, they managed to not get deflated with the setback. Belgian international Origi pulled one back just at half-time, but the two-goal advantage was restored by striker Marco Reus in the 57th minute. Even then, Liverpool refusal to accept defeat saw them go on a stunning spree in the last 30 minutes. Philippe Coutinho and defender Sakho scored to get the club back on level terms, but they still needed a goal because Dortmund were going through on away goals. The most impressive comeback was completed with an injury time goal from defender Lovren to sign Liverpool through. Read more »

Henrique wants to secure a regular starting role in Brisbane Roar

The Brazilian born winger of Brisbane Roar, Henrique originally joined Brisbane Roar back in 2009 with the purpose of serving as a backup option for Reinaldo but Henrique has slowly been getting more and more playing time in the main team of the Australian side.

Henrique still hasn’t turned into one of the most influential or important players in the team of John Aloisi as his playing time is limited but even though he is mainly serving as a substitute and back-up option in the Australian outfit, Henrique has stated that he wants to stay with the club for as long as possible.

The contract of Henrique is reaching it’s last stages as it only has around 6 months before expiring and the Brazilian born performer is hoping that what he has accomplished so far has been enough to impress the manager John Aloisi and offer the 30 year old player a new contract.

“Every week I’ve been scoring goals. I am not sure about contracts now. I am just essentially on my football and I’m pretty sure if I keep playing like I have been, the contract will sort out. For me, for my family, it is a big thing. I am really happy to be Australian,” Henrique said.

The 30 year old player wants to continue working hard in Brisbane Roar and eventually seal a consistent spot in the main lineup of John Aloisi, this is something that he has failed to do despite having joined the Australian outfit over 5 years ago. Read more »
