Roy Hodgson spent a tough 191 day at Anfield that resulted in his departure in 2011’s January after the team suffered poor results.

At that period, Liverpool was going through difficult times along with Fenway Sports Group taking up from nonadaptive regime of George Gillett and Tom Hicks in the October. In spite of accusations, he was not up to the coaching job of fitting expectations at Liverpool, Steven Gerrard believes that it was a tough time for Roy to replace Rafa Benitez who was a fan favorite after making Liverpool the champion in 2005 edition of Champions League.

The 31 year old midfielder told that Hodgson is a good coach. He had worked with Roy before he took the coaching job at Anfield. Roy did not change before he left Liverpool. Roy was always very thorough and technically good as well as loyal among the footballers with the players. The Liverpool captain also added that it is a good appointment for the team, actually all the candidates for the most coveted post in English football were indeed very good.

Like any other national team coach Roy will be evaluated on results so that they will watch how it goes, but Steven Gerrard is certainly looking ahead to working with Roy once again.  Jamie Carragher, his Liverpool team mate, who retired from international football is also standing behind the new national team coach. The veteran told that he is delighted for him.
