Villa boss Steven Gerrard sees Luiz as an important member of his midfield and he’s keen to hold on to him. Steven Gerrard and other senior Villa officials are keen to hand him a new deal to ward off the interest of the clubs interested in him. One of the teams eyeing a move for Luiz is Arsenal. The midfielder has 18 months left on his contract and Villa might be forced to cash in on him this summer if he does not sign a new contract.

North London giants Arsenal have beamed their searchlight for a new midfielder on ex-Manchester City man Luiz after missing out on his compatriot, Bruno Guimares. Guimares is on the verge of leaving French giants Lyon to join Newcastle United who are struggling in the bottom three as far as the Premier League log is concerned.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta knows a lot of things about Luiz having worked with him at Manchester City while he was their assistant manager. Luiz left Villa to join City in the summer of 2019 and he has since become a regular in the Aston Villa XI. On his part, Arteta left his role as the assistant manager at Manchester City to take up the manager’s job at the Emirates Stadium.

Luiz was a regular in the Villa starting XI when Dean Smith was the manager before he was sacked towards the end of last year and replaced by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. The Brazilian international has maintained his status since Gerrard became the Villa boss.
