VILLA ON LOSING RUN FOR LEICESTER

Aston Villa are on a losing run in the Premier League ahead of their trip to face Leicester City this weekend. The Foxes play hosts to Steven Gerrard and his Villa players who are on a four-match losing run on the Premier League scene. Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is under pressure to end the current poor form that has seen Villa drop to 15th spot on the Premier League log.

Steven Gerrard began his Villa managerial career with four wins from six Premier League games when he replaced the sacked Dean Smith in the role in November, but things have turned upside down for him in recent weeks following the run of four successive league defeats. Aston Villa suffered their heaviest defeat this season after they were hit for four by North London club Tottenham Hotspur without any reply. South Korean attacker Son Heung-Min scored a treble to lead Spurs to a 4-0 away win over Villa for what’s their joint best win of the season alongside the 4-0 away win over Leeds United.

The poor run started for Gerrard and his players with the 2-1 loss at Europa League semifinalists West Ham United with young midfielder Jacob Ramsey getting the lone goal for the visitors. The 1-0 home loss to Arsenal made it two straight defeats for Aston Villa with England international Bukayo Saka getting the winning goal for the Gunners in the first half.

Aston Villa made it three successive Premier League defeats after suffering a 2-1 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the midlands derby. Wolves took the derby spoils thanks to the goals from Jonny and Daniel Podence, while Villa got a consolation goal through the penalty from leading goalscorer Ollie Watkins. The aforementioned defeat at the hands of Spurs then made it four defeats on the bounce.

Villa would be hoping to avoid a fifth straight defeat in the Premier League when they take on hosts Leicester City on Saturday afternoon. It must be pointed out that their four successive defeats came on the back of three straight league wins.
