Steven Gerrard and Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini were involved in an after match altercation regarding a possible red card to Liverpool defender Glen Johnson. Roberto Mancini has been involving in a number of touchline battles with players and referees recently.

The 3-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester United was just the start of it, as he has also shown that he can get irritated even with the captains of the opposing teams. Manchester City suffered their second home defeat of the season at the hands of Liverpool in the Carling cup semi-final. This was the first leg of the Carling cup semi-final.

The 1-0 defeat was brought about by the Steven Gerrard penalty early on in the match. Steven Gerrard was making his comeback from injury and he scored his third goal in just four matches after his return, thus proving his importance within the team. He also showed that she was more than important to the team off the field as well. Roberto Mancini was extremely displeased about the red card Vincent Kompany received in the 3-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup. Glen Johnson made a similar challenge in this match, but was left unpunished.

This led to a serious fight between Roberto Mancini and Steven Gerrard in the tunnel. “I don’t think so. It was a clear winner of the tackle. I’m surprised at Mancini. He had a go at Wayne Rooney last week for trying to get one of his players sent off. Now he’s trying to get one of our players in trouble. I don’t think that’s right,” said the Liverpool captain. City have just lost their second match at home after going without suffering one since February 2010.
