GERRARD STAYING AT LIVERPOOL

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, who recently agreed to a new two-year contract, has revealed that he rejected the opportunity to join a club in the Champions league last season. He has now urged striker Luis Suarez to also do the same amidst interest from Arsenal and Real Madrid. The 33-year-old was speaking on the occasion of his testimonial match. The club has seen the former youth team product give them more than 10 decades of service. During this period, Gerrard has also become one of the celebrated players in English football. He has won every major trophy with Liverpool apart from the Premier league.

Gerrard, who were subjected to interest from Chelsea in 2005, has said that he never considered leaving Liverpool at any stage in his career. Gerrard reportedly came extremely close to joining Chelsea, but performed a U-turn just hours after agreeing personal terms with Chelsea. Suarez has become one of the wanted players in Europe. He scored 30 goals for Liverpool last season, and Arsenal have recently made an offer of £ 40 million for the player. Even though Liverpool have been consistently stating that the player is not for sale, the player recently revealed his desire to leave the club.

“I had a chance to leave last year. It was for a club in the Champions League, not a Premier League club, but I wasn’t tempted. I’ve been through that before. I think the only person who knows what’s happening is Luis himself. He has a huge decision to make and, as his team-mate, I have to show him respect and give him space to make whatever decision he wants to make. But I think everyone knows how highly I rate him and how much I want him to stay,” said Gerrard ahead of the match with Olympiakos.
